Where to start, where to start...? How about with dodgeball? Chris and I finally were able to get out to an open gym for a session of dodging balls.
A.) float gently into someone's open arms.
B.) catch someone off guard and hit them, making them "out"
C.) zoom quickly towards the other opposing team but about five feet too high
As the games wore on, I got more and more tired and I notched letter A all too often. Afterwards I was stunned at how sore I was. It didn't seem like I was working out while playing, but I was. My right/dominant side, my shoulder down to calf was sore in every muscle group. On the left side it was mostly just my lower body. So I learned that dodgeball is an effective way to work out. And just as fun as when I was a child! I hope to go again soon and maybe even join a league! It's not only great source of exercise but also it doubles as a social tool. In the leagues after each game the teams go out and drink and socialize. That would be killing two birds with one stone!
I also managed to kill another bird but with a different stone. I wouldn't even call it a stone. I would call it a mental mind power beam of awesomeness. A year ago I bought a scale that maxed out at 400 pounds because I believed at the time that I had crossed under the 400 pound mark while eating a vegan diet. The only problem with it was as soon as it was turned on, it would add anywhere from 35-50 pounds to the actual weight. So I never got to weigh myself last yearbecause of that additional add on. When I had to go back to Ohio, I stashed my stuff at Chris' place.
**Flash forward to modern day**
We get a membership to Planet Fitness in Inglewood. We both love it because it's cheap ($10 a month or $20 for one person with unlimited tanning/massages/guest passes/personal training). After working out the first day I asked the woman at the desk where the scale was. She explained to me that Planet Fitness is a "Judgement Free Zone" and a "No Intimidation Zone". Since scales intimidate some people from working out and trying to lose weight they choose not to have one. Please excuse my language as I don't intend to offend anyone, but there was only one reaction that I had to that. (This was in my head.)
"FUCK."
I need a scale to stay motivated. I can't afford to buy my own measuring tape for pete's sake! (At the time) I didn't have a job, so that left me nothing to report on or build off of. I was up a creek without a paddle. The YMCA wouldn't let me go back to just weigh myself without at least a guest pass. I racked my brain for a good day and came up with nothing. I talked to mom and she suggested asking local hospitals and dieticians if I could use their scale. That sounded like it would work, so I spent an afternoon sending emails to hospitals and dieticians. This was about two weeks ago. I still haven't heard anything from any of them. A few days later in the car I recalled my failed expenditure and I asked Chris where it was. He had no idea. It wasn't in storage or anywhere else. We stopped by his old apartment and talked to his former roommate and he knew exactly where it was and BOOM! I had a scale. Now to get it working right... It took over an hour of tinkering but with the help of Google I was able to find a way to reset it. So now I have a scale to weigh myself wherever I go!
The last event that happened last week was the dying and rebirth of my car Bojack. Since the battery tragedy of May, the car hasn't been working quite right. Last week I left the lights on for five minutes outside of the gym and the battery died. We had to lobby for a jump. After that happened, the car was really struggling to start up. Then in a move of complete genius I decided to leave the lights on again at the gym. (I'd like to say that we go to the gym around 6:30 am and I'm not always on top of my game at that time of day...) We got a jump and I was able to make it to work on time. Sadly on Saturday I left nothing on but poor Bojack had nothing left. The engine would not turn over at all. I took him to Autozone and they told me the good news that it was the battery and not the alternator. I got paid on Monday so I could go out and get a new battery. The sadness from this continues though. California is not a cheap place for repairs. One hundred and two dollars later, I have a new generic battery and not much else left over from a 22 hour check...
Sometimes it takes a little bad to make the small good things better! More to come later! :-D
