I don't like this. I think that people these days have become too addicted to fast track fixes for everything. Chemical dependence goes beyond illegal drugs in my opinion. I see people taking medications like Ibuprofen and Tylenol for very minor minor ailments. Allergy medications and decongestants fit under this as well. If I get a headache or any kind of ache I try my hardest to push through without the aid of pain killers. I increase water intake and rest/stretch whatever it is that needs the attention. I've been doing this for about four years now. I wait for days with a cold before I try any decongestants because I'd rather let my body fight it's own fight. I see these pills in the same light. Me a year ago may have been a little more interested in what's offered, but at this point in my life I've trained myself to deal with the symptoms without the aid of medication. And I think that this is something that everyone on this planet can do. It's tough to work out but all you need is dedication.
My before and after. I'm a little late on this one but I thought I'd write about this and see what everyone else thinks. Recently there were announcements that the FDA had approved two weight loss drugs called Qsymia and Belviq. Qysmia is scheduled to be released late 2012 and Belviq in early 2013. The drugs have gone through clinicals and testing to positive results. In those tests the drugs showed people lost anywhere up to 11% of their body fat and kept it off for a year. The way they work is by blocking off the signals of hunger pangs and also by making the body feel satisfied after each meal. The target group for these drugs are people who have a BMI of 30% and above or people with diseases like hypertension or diabetes and a BMI of 27% and above. You can read in detail about Qsymia here and Belviq here.

I was browsing the news on Yahoo! today and I came across this article. In Canada, a man is claiming that the courts will not release his children to him because of his weight. A little over a year ago the courts took his kids away from the mother because she had a mental breakdown, drug problems, and couldn't take care of them herself. The father currently weighs 360 pounds and a doctor's report said that he had some mobility problems and he got winded walking in the lobby. It said that he would have trouble keeping up with the kids. But does that justify the court from keeping the kids away? They're not holding the children in foster care until he gets in shape, they are putting the two kids up for adoption so he will not be able to get them back.
