Sadly, due to extreme budget shorfalls I was unable to go to the gym but once last week... :-( On my one day I ran the program as detailed on the Frank to 5k page. I will say that I was having problems with my pacing. I could not hold a consistent rhythm in my running whether I was looking at the elliptical speed or not. I did not go any faster than I had previously and I wasn't having trouble getting up to speed either. I just couldn't seem to lock in on a solid speed. I will try again this week. I will do Week 3 completely over again. In the meantime, I came across a good motivational blurb. It's a friend of Bruce Lee talking about a time they had gone running. very good stuff!
I'm a little bummed out. The scale this morning was bumped back up to 365. I over the past week I was running at a very low energy level. Not being able to go to the gym really weighed heavy on how I felt throughout the week. I did do different things to stay active like playing basketball and I went swimming for a short period in the ocean over the weekend. Without being able to run and work out like I'm used to I felt the past week was nothing but me gaining weight.
I will say that I cheated yesterday and checked my weight again and I was down to 354. I will not document that on the side bar because that is not an official measurement. Also I was severely dehydrated yesterday morning so I know that that number is very jaded. Regardless, I'm not fat! Woo hoo!
Saturday night I went to this really cool event called Jeff Fest. Jeff is the singer in a cover band called Yikes and each year he throws a huge music festival/party in his back yard. I put away My Fitness Pal because I knew that I was going to go over calories for the day. Barbecued food tastes so much better than peanut butter and jelly on wheat! I believe this is why my weight was so high on Sunday. It probably took a few days to process the different things I ate. Nonetheless, I felt horrible last week because I was not able to stick to my routine. My energy was low throughout the whole day. I have money put aside now to make sure that I can go to the gym.
The last cool update I have is from yesterday. I went to the gym and it was a lifting day. Before I lift I hop on the elliptical for a 10 minute run to get the blood pumping and the body ready to move. I ran a mile in ten minutes and ten seconds!!! I didn't set out to break any personal records yesterday, it just kinda happened. I started jogging at about 4 MPH and kicked it up to 6 pretty easily. I ended up running the majority of the time between 6-7 MPH without much struggle. I was extremely surprised when I looked down and I was just past nine minutes with about .12 miles to go to hit the mile mark! This milestone took everything down I had about myself from the past week and make it dissolve into the sea of happiness flooding from my heart! I wanted to high five people as they passed my elliptical but I doubt they'd understand why this grinning idiot is reaching out and trying to hit them. It's not a ten minute mile, but I know that I can hit that easily because I was taking my time to get up to speed. The Frank to 5k is working better than I had given it credit for! I can't say this for sure, stamina is something I am still working at, but according to the numbers I should be able to hit 3 miles in 30 minutes and 30 seconds. I'll continue running according to plan. My results only motivate me further to get better!
So week three of the running plan is well under way! I hope to finish the research post soon! Besides that look forward to an update this weekend with measurements!
