Today I ate a banana. I know, you're thinking "That's cheating! Bananas are solid food!" And I agree. but the recipe for lunch was for a smoothie. All of the ingredients were to be put into a blender on liquify. Unfortunately I do not have a blender. So I juiced all of the fruits and veggies that I could and then bought a banana to eat along with the juice. Tomorrow's breakfast calls for the same thing, so once again I'll eat a banana with breakfast.
That got me thinking. In the case of an emergency, what will I do? Let say my juice spills or spoils; what next? I decided that bananas and other fruit are okay to consume in their solid forms if something were to come up. Vegetables as well. I'd rather have to cheat a meal and get the nutrients I need rather than skip a meal and go for an extended period of time malnourished.
Shortly after posting last night my world collapsed around me. First I went to gather the ingredients for dinner and I noticed the bag with my supplies in them was full of pulp and garbage. We had two Trader Joe's bags. One was filled with the produce I got from the farmer's market the day before and the other was full of trash. In the morning, I grabbed the bag I thought was trash and threw it away on my way out... Not so much... A week's worth of kale and spinach, 5 pounds of oranges, 4 kiwis, a beet, and some carrots- GONE. I was too stunned to even be angry or sad. My lesson learned is to put the trash out when it's full and to keep produce in a different kind of bag.
This next paragraph is kinda gross- but also rather funny, so if you don't like gross things or things that are funny then don't read this! I go to the store and grab some more (expensive) supplies for dinner and meals for the next day. I get everything prepared and settle in for the night. When I go to the bathroom, I notice that my stool is purple. I had no idea what would have caused this. The water around it is a very light purple color as well. When I flush and wash my hands I realize that I have to pee. I go back to the toilet and BOOM, my urine is a light rosy color. I think back to the juices I drank from the previous 24 hours and I figured out the culprit. Beets. Beets bleed red and I had to wash my hands thoroughly with soap to get them clean after handing them. I googled "red urine beets" and sure enough, I found my culprit. When you have a lot of beets within a short amount of time, you'll see the changes in color of your excrement. To say my evening was eventful would have been an understatement!
Because I had to go to the store to get new ingredients for my juice, I was unable to go to dodgeball last night. I made up for it in karaoke!
Tomorrow is the 5th day of my fast, and I'm looking forward to the weekend! It'll be interesting to see how different it is juicing when I'm hungry compared to juicing on a time schedule.
