First off,due to sporting events and holidays, I noticed a little extra weight on myself. I stepped on the scale and it sang a song to the tune of nine additional pounds.
Ouch
Let it be known that I am starting this fast at a weight of 351 pounds. I look forward to Sunday when I weigh again!
Juicing is still a work in progress. This weekend I'm going to go out and find glass mason jars to store my juices in. Those are the best to use for storing my concoctions because the glass doesn't absorb as much of the nutrients as plastic containers. Another reason to get mason jars would be to get containers closer to 16 ounces. The more air and space you have in a bottle/jar, the faster the juice would turn. These are fresh made juices with no preservatives so I have a 12-24 hour window to work with once I make them.
On to the good stuff! I drank my first juice on the way to work. Fruit juices are suggested as the first meal of the day to give you a jump of natural sugars and energy. The rest of the day it's 80% veggies, 20% fruits. This way my sugar doesn't spike and I come down with diabetes. I noticed that after my brunch I started developing a slight headache. I've read the first few days are a little rough because the body is detoxing, but I didn't expect to suffer from headaches since those were mostly associated with caffeine withdrawal. I've been increasing my water intake to combat it, but there's always been a slight twinge reminding me that my brain still exists.
I also need to figure out a late afternoon snack. The guide suggests coconut water as an electrolyte refresher, but I don't really like the taste of coconut so I'm going to look up a simple veggie juice I can sub in to get that boost I need to carry over into the evening time.
As I was reading over the site today I found a substitution list which is a real life saver! Some items listed I had never heard of before and have a hard time finding at a store. So now I can go through and redo recipes to contain the proper substitutes in them so that I can keep a balanced nutritional diet (and hopefully shake this headache.)
What is surprising is how filling the juices are. I figured that after an hour I'd be starving, but that's not the case at all. Twice I had a random hunger pang but overall, the juices cover me from one meal to the next. During the week I'm going to scour the site for recipes and get everything organized so that I can keep a variety of juices flowing. The last thing I need is to burn myself out on the same types of juices day in and day out.
This is all for now. I'm off to make dinner and then relax with a book tonight! I'll see you all tomorrow!
Until the next episode!
