First off, I'd like to thank everybody who reads this for following up and leaving the positive comments for me. The last article took a lot out of me, but I bounced back quickly because of the support I've gotten from all of you! It means a lot and it keeps me going! I owe a part of my success to you all!
Secondly, I've been putting up obscene amounts of mileage both this past week and the week before. I was excited that after a week from starting this blog I managed to log a whopping 9.2 miles in seven days. For someone who has been loafing around quite a bit for quite a while, 9.2 miles was unthinkable. Not to be out done though, between last Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I blew the previous number for seven day's worth of exercise OUT OF THE WATER! In those three days I traversed 11 miles. After that I still kept up with my hour of walking/2 miles a day each day except for yesterday (Saturday). Also, on Thursday, I completed my first 20 minute mile! My walking pace is roughly 2 MPH. After that little bit of success on Thursday, I'm going to start increasing my walking speed. Another thing that is badly needed is a pedometer. The reason being that I walk even more than what I track in a day. When I go to the store, when I walk from the boardwalk to the ocean, and other situations where I can't measure it all adds up as well. The numbers I report are just base numbers during times that I'm trying to get out and move.
Another mini victory! I went to a potluck on Wednesday and I surprised myself! After having a plate of random food stuffs, I waited a bit then had a second much smaller plate. After that I wasn't super stuffed, but I was satisfied and from there I didn't eat anything else that night! I saved a lot of calories for that event and I barely used any of them up! Nothing too big but a definite surprise! My mind is starting to get into that mindset that I need to eat to live not live to eat!
- As of May 29th I vowed to abstain from all alcoholic beverages along with all sodas and juices. Until at least June 29th I will only be drinking water, milk, and tea. You'll be seeing updates along those lines weekly.
I weighed myself! Yes that's right. I know exactly how much I weigh and if you look around the site at goals you'll see more definite numbers! It was not easy though. At the Culver City YMCA they only have the old fashioned scales. The kind you see at doctor's offices. So I asked the front desk if they knew any other ones that might have a digital scale. They had no clue. On top of that, they didn't have a list of the numbers for the other gyms either. I was on my own... I was determined though and I sat in my car outside of McDonalds and stole some free Wifi. The first gym was a disaster. Santa Monica YMCA, YOU ARE ON WATCH. No more warnings! I called them and the guy on the phone sounded like he was 14. I asked him if they had a digital scale to which he replied in the affirmative. I explain my situation that I just got a 7 day pass for Culver City and I just wanted to weigh myself if at all possible. His response? No. I asked for clarification and he told me that to do anything there you must be a member unless I signed up for a one day pass. I asked what the criteria for that was and he told me that it was $15 bucks and good for about 2 hours. What the heck?!? I hung up on him. Luckily I found the Y on La Grange and they were much more helpful! The woman on the phone said that they had a digital scale, and it's normally a member's only thing but due to circumstance I could come in and weigh myself today. Afterwards I'd need a 7 day pass or a full membership. Anyhow! I headed straight there and took everything out of my pockets and took my shoes off and hopped on the scale. All of my numbers to date have been based off of the weight of 400 pounds, which was a rough estimate. The numbers danced in front of my eyes for a few seconds while I held my breath and they finally came to a stop. 373 POUNDS! WOO HOO!!!! The last time I was near that number was 2007! I jumped from 350 to 425 in a 12 month period. I can't pinpoint the exact date that I last weighed this much, but take my word for it- IT'S BEEN A WHILE!
A special thank you to my buddy Alex today. I told him as I was on my way to the other gym to weigh myself that I was really nervous about finding out exactly how much I weighed. I asked him to wish me luck. His response to that was this. "You don't need luck. It doesn't matter because you will never weigh this much again. And what'll be even cooler is when you cross under 400 pounds!" After reading that I shed my fear of the scale and just hopped on! I really needed that push. Thank you!
I'm not saying that in the past two weeks I've lost 27 pounds but I know I have lost some weight. I can tell by the way my clothes hang on me in areas and the energy I have throughout the day. When I flex my calf muscles there's some definition again. All of my shorts needed their drawstrings adjusted. I feel more confident in myself. I see the little changes in the mirror and they look ENORMOUS to me! Most of all, I FEEL GOOD ABOUT ME! This is not my quitting point. Oh no! I've been going through the past hour and adjusting all of my numbers and calculations. This is really exhilarating to me! I cannot wait till next week when I get a seven day pass to the La Grange Y so that I can weigh myself again! Then I can see the actual amount of weight lost in a week's time. As a precaution, I allot 3 pounds to be added on or subtracted for water weight. And I'm still hunting for some measuring tape so I can take down my measurements!
If you couldn't tell, I'm very happy with my efforts so far and I am looking forward to more results and ultimately hitting my target goal of 250 and beyond! For now the bar is set on losing 37 pounds. I also have to remember to find that pink shirt to start taking daily pictures for my cool picture montage movie thingy once I fully slim down! If you'll excuse me now, I'm going to start researching the different exercises I can do for tomorrow! :-D
