Day 1
Time: 30 minutes total (21 minutes of running and walking along with a 5 minute warmup and 4 minute cool down).
Distance: 2.32
I didn't gain all of my weight in a month so therefore I shouldn't expect to lose it that quickly either. The best approach is through research, understanding, trial and error, patience, persistence and most importantly PLENTY OF TIME. Through this method I will attempt to make weight loss make sense and- dare I say- FUN! Welcome to my blog! Journey with me through my eyes as I muse, think-out-loud, and educate myself- and hopefully others- on the best ways to lose weight and be healthy!
Welp! Week two is in the books! I decided to write this today since I've got some free time before the evenings' events. This week was a step up from the last. I had the usual five minute warmup, followed by 21 minutes of alternating 1:30 of running and 2:00 of walking, then I finished with a four minute cool down walk. I believe that I will be able to hit 3 miles and 30 minutes by the time the nine weeks are over. BUT it's easy to say now on week two. Week five and week six are going to be very difficult because I will be doing a new time/pattern of running and walking each day. It seems pretty tough. Each time I run though I gain a little more confidence in myself. Time flies now while I'm running and I could even venture to say that I'm starting to enjoy myself while doing this! A little something to note on the side, this week I had to switch things up because of the holiday on Wednesday. So I had a two day layoff on Tuesday and Wednesday then continued the program on Thursday and then today (Saturday). Day 1 On day one this week I stepped up and was able to hit my 3.5 MPH stride for the warmup walk. When it was time to run, I got to speed much quicker than I had the previous week and I can pretty much hover around the 6.9-7.2 MPH range with no problems. ALSO I was able to completely zone out in my music and the tv's while running and still keep that pace! One small step for me! :-D During the final sprint I was able to hit the 8 MPH mark but I couldn't keep it consistently the whole time.

As promised, I went out Tuesday night and I got a measuring device. I could not find a tape measure that a tailor would use so I got a tape measure that a carpenter would use. Add in a strap that is big enough to go around my most problemed areas and I've got a system to measure my vital areas to track progress! I am going to measure myself every other Sunday while weighing myself each and every Sunday. I won't post the results individually, but with the recaps instead. And each week the timeline will be updated as well. So without further adieu, I present to you my measurements!
This is badly delayed, but I'd like to recap week one of the Frank to 5k program. I am glad to say that I passed. With FLYING COLORS! Let me start with what I'm expecting to achieve through all of this. My goal is by week nine to be able to run for a half hour straight on the elliptical going at least 6.5-7.0 MPH. The program gives you the choice of time (30 minutes) or distance (3 miles). At the pace I'm going I should be able to hit both of them by the completion of the program, but what I am stressing more is to be able to get to the thirty minute mark of running nonstop.
Week one is very easy. I start out with a 5 minute warmup walk then I go for 20 minutes total alternating between one and a half minutes walking and a minute running followed by a 5 minute cool down period. The site urges people not to go all out from the start. It says to run as slow as possible. As you go on you will be able to add speed to your run, but for the program you take it more at a jogging pace. I set my walking pace on the Elliptical at 3.5 mph. At this pace I am able to reduce my heart rate and breathing to a minimally active rate. My true goal is to go 7 mph consistently, but I'm not great at setting my own pace so I buffer between 6.5 and 7. This speed is a running rate for me, but it's one that I've been able to hit fairly often over the past month of running. I get a little crazy when the lights go off... Moshi moshi! Lets see if I can finish this before the library closes! I'm glad to see you back here reading about my journey and I promise I will schedule time to write each week. No more big delays like this. Onwards and upwards to the doings of my life the past 7 plus days! I'm gonna start with the bad- if you can call it that. I put on 2 pounds between the weigh in on 6/25 and this past Sunday 7/1. This bummed me out at first pretty bad. I realized something that has changed my aspect of this. I began a water regimen. My job has a sink and I have been adamant on staying properly hydrated. The past month I've been drinking water before and after workouts and at meals. That's it. Nothing in between. Hydration is important when increasing physical activity to prevent cramping in muscles and also flushing out the toxins from the body. I weighed myself on Friday when I got the scale working and was devastated. I weighed 374 pounds. I knew a day like this would come where I would put on a little bit of weight but I was not expecting that. That was like I regressed from all of the progress I have made so far. I weighed myself on Saturday and I was surprised to see that I had dropped back down to 365. Upon further reflection I realized the amount of water I was drinking each day since starting work was a lot. I was using the restroom every other hour. On Sunday I hopped on one more time and the scale said 368. I'm going to leave it there. I won't use a different weight from the previous days and I won't fudge the numbers. What this does is reiterate the fact that I need measuring tape. That will be purchased tonight or tomorrow. You will see numbers on this site I guarantee it! Dodge. Dip. Dive. Duck... And Dodge! The difference one week makes, eh? I'd like to apologize for my absence over the past 7+ days, I've been adjusting to the new schedule involving work and etching out a work-life balance that fits me best. The job is pretty awesome. I work now 25 hours a week, Monday-Friday. This schedule is awesome because it allows me some wiggle room while I branch out and starting acting. It also gives me plenty of time to get exercise in each day without feeling rushed or incomplete. Sadly, my car Bojack fell ill with a bad battery. This has been a long time coming since I fell asleep in the car with the lights on two months ago and completely drained the battery. Since then it's been showing signs of it's imminent demise. I also managed to find a way to weigh myself weekly as well! All of these things plus more added to a rather interesting week in the life of a slimming human dynamo! Where to start, where to start...? How about with dodgeball? Chris and I finally were able to get out to an open gym for a session of dodging balls. |
