Why not give the kids back? This sort of thing makes me angry at how far the courts and such are peeking into peoples' lives. From what I read there is no history of abuse from him. The children's weight hasn't been mentioned but from the looks of the article they are not obese like their father. So what's the point? I don't think they have any right to deny him his children based on those grounds. I'm 3 pounds heavier than he is. I don't have the violent history like he does. What's stopping them from taking kids away from me? (I have none but hypothetically speaking.) When I was a kid, my mom was heavy. How would she react if we were taken away? Hell- 34% of Americans are obese. If something like this were in America, the children's services offices would be overflowing with cases. People beat their children and then get them back from children's services. Maybe this is just me, but the whole idea of keeping a person who is trying to improve his life away from their kids really strikes a cord with me. What do you think?
I was browsing the news on Yahoo! today and I came across this article. In Canada, a man is claiming that the courts will not release his children to him because of his weight. A little over a year ago the courts took his kids away from the mother because she had a mental breakdown, drug problems, and couldn't take care of them herself. The father currently weighs 360 pounds and a doctor's report said that he had some mobility problems and he got winded walking in the lobby. It said that he would have trouble keeping up with the kids. But does that justify the court from keeping the kids away? They're not holding the children in foster care until he gets in shape, they are putting the two kids up for adoption so he will not be able to get them back. A few things to point out first. One, the article says that he's had a rough past with arguments and fighting in public. Two, the court itself didn't pass judgement based on the fact that he's overweight. I'm assuming they just came to a decision without labeling it because of his weight. Three, he claims to have lost 150 pounds already since this whole legal battle has begun. He also has taken anger management classes and stopped smoking marijuana.

This is saddening. And especially awful that the children are being put up for adoption, since children's services gives children back to drug addict parents etc when they demonstrate they've changed.

I agree. It's ridiculous that someone can just step in and decide what is best for the kids. I also wonder if something is being held out, but the fact that he is losing weight should be enough to warrant him having his kids. This is permanent. He has no way to get them back once they are given up for adoption. Just think how much that will effect the kids. They are old enough to know that something is going on. I'm getting angry again! That's why I posted this. It's ridiculous.
